Hi, I'm Jerod. I'm the guy behind deLIGHTful Coral. This is a small operation. The corals you see on this site grow in my home, in tanks I built and maintain myself, and every photo you see is a coral I know personally. I wanted to write a real page about who I am and why I'm doing this, instead of the usual marketing blurb.

So here it is.

How I got into reefing

I spent over 20 years in the Army doing logistics. When I retired, I had a problem a lot of veterans run into: you go from a life that's structured down to the minute to a life where nobody's telling you what's next, and your body and brain don't know what to do with all that empty space. The transition is harder than people talk about.

Reefing is what I found.

A reef tank is a system that demands attention. You check parameters. You watch the flow. You notice when something's off. You troubleshoot. You make small adjustments and wait to see what happens. It's logistics, basically. It's a routine that rewards patience and consistency, and it gave me something to do with my hands and my head every day. The tank became the structure I'd lost.

It also turned out I just love this stuff. I've been a scuba diver and surfer for as long as I can remember, so being in tune with the ocean is something I was already wired for. Now I get to bring a piece of it home and watch it grow.

I've been keeping reef tanks for over 10 years now. Some have been disasters. Most have been good. The current systems are the best ones I've ever run, and at some point along the way I had enough coral colonies growing well enough that it made sense to start sharing them.

The community

The reefing community is one of the best things about this hobby. People are generous with their knowledge. They want you to succeed. When my tanks crashed, somebody on a forum or at the local shop talked me through what went wrong and what to do next, and I never paid for that help.

A huge part of that for me has been Reef Factory, our local shop. The owner is the kind of guy who'll spend an hour walking you through a project just because he loves the hobby and wants you to succeed. He's helped me more times than I can count, and watching him operate is part of what made me want to do this myself.

In April 2026, we did our first coral show. That was a turning point. Being there in person, talking to other reefers, especially the newer ones just figuring out their first tanks, was the most fun I've had in this hobby. Sharing what I've learned. Helping someone understand why their hammer keeps closing up. Pointing them toward the right gear without trying to sell them the expensive version. That's the part I love.

That's really what this shop is for. It's a way to pass the corals I've grown on to other reefers. It's a way to stay connected to the community. And if you're new and not sure what you're doing, that's exactly who I want to talk to. Email me. Tell me about your tank. I'll help.

What you can expect from me

Every coral on this site was grown or stabilized in my home system. I don't list anything I haven't watched for at least a few weeks. The photo on each listing is the actual specimen you'll receive (when it's marked WYSIWYG) or a representative example (when it's not), and I'm honest about which is which.

I ship Monday through Wednesday because that's the safest window. I hold orders when the weather is bad. I'd rather delay your coral than risk it.

If something goes wrong, I'll make it right. The Live Arrival Guarantee is real and I honor it. I'm not a corporation with a returns department. I'm one person reading every email myself.

Why "deLIGHTful Coral"

Lighting is at the heart of a reef tank. Without the right light, nothing thrives. The name plays on that. It's also just a fun name, and this is supposed to be a fun hobby. I take the corals seriously. I don't take myself too seriously.
